Japanese and Chinese aesthetics and culture have long been a source of fascination and inspiration for Western artists, inspired by the calligraphy, textiles, ceramics, bronzes, and popular woodblock prints. Our Oriental Collection captures this sense of Japonaiserie & Chinoiserie, wherein the picture plane is flat, and depth is created by fields of color, not shadows or Western point perspective. This collection also features a wide variety of popular oriental painting objects such as the crane, the carp, the lotus, the peony and the orchid.
